We compile together resources and information that many IPP breeder and grower, especially for those with limited experience may find useful. However, we cannot guarantee that these recommendation will work for you. Any medication-related items should always be used as directed by the product label or your veterinarian.
Housing
The most popular style of housing for IPP farmers is an A-Frame shelter design. The design allows for piglets to "escape" in the lower corners of the A, preventing the sow from laying on any piglets.
At Three Daughters Farm, our housing varies from one lot to the next. Most of our buildings are built from pallet wood with tin roof and are approximately 8' x 8' wide, and 4' tall. Other paddocks have recycled items, such as truck cap, which we have utilized to mitigate the raising material cost.

Minerals
Have you ever had a day where your body just say .... I really need "XYZ"? It could have been anything from a glass of water, salad, specific fruit, or just some extra sleep. Just like how us human needs something to maintain our health and sanity, so do the IPPs. Mineral for IPP is so important and is the key to their health.
Pigs root because they look for minerals. When pigs are deficient in minerals, they dig. And until their body is satisfied, they will continue to dig and dig until their have sufficient nutrient that their bodies need. Unfortunately the commercial hog feed found in most store does not provide sufficient minerals for pasture pigs that are fed limited amount of grain each day; therefore, supplementing the feed with mineral rich in mineral they needs is the key to reduce and ultimately eliminating rooting behaviors in your IPPs.
We recommend that you consult with a nutritionist.
